Update from Day 2 ISAF Observation Trials
Published: Tue 17th April, 2007
Today was our second day in Hyeres, France at the ISAF Women’s High Performance Dinghy Observation Trials. We have a great team here including designer Julian Bethwaite, Julian’s son Alex, 29er International President Gerardo Seeliger, 29er International Secretary Jerelyn Biehl, builders Dave Hall (Ovington) and Alberto and Paulo Portitilia (Nautivela), and sailors Jacqui Bonnicha, Silja Leightenen, Kersten Beucke, Jen Glass. We had two great days of training prior to the event in good wind, but since the Observation Trials have begun we’ve had 4-10 knots and warm weather. The 29er group is hoping for more wind in the coming two days. Each day of the trials consists of sailors from many MNAs sailing all 6 of the boats here (Cherub, 29er, 29erXX, International 14, RS800 and GT60). The four sailors here with the 29er / 29erXX have taken some MNA sailors out, but most sail without our help. We have been able to sail a few of the other boats as well.
Last night we gave a one hour presentation to ISAF about the 29er and 29erXX. The presentation came mostly from the sailors who spoke of their enthusiasm for skiff sailing and experiences in the 29er and 29erXX. Gerardo, Julian and Jerelyn spoke about measurement, construction and class management. We feel we have a great boat to present and are happy with how things are going.
Thank you to Marine Pool, Full Plane, Bethwaite Design, Ovington Boats and PS2000 for your sponsorship and support.
